Almond Resorts aims to be the ultimate eco friendly Caribbean hotel group

Almond Resorts, operator of four-star premium all-inclusive hotels on Barbados and St Lucia, is aiming to be the most environmentally sensitive all-inclusive resort company in the Caribbean.
The family friendly Almond Beach Village and adults-only Almond Beach Club & Spa on Barbados have implemented several initiatives to become more eco-friendly hotels and are the only resorts on the island which have consistently re-certified for Green Globe status; a worldwide certification where companies are compared with similar operations on a number of key environmental performance areas.
The Almond Beach Village has undertaken measures including the use of solar power throughout the property to heat water, and is now irrigating the golf course entirely from waste water thanks to the newly installed waste water treatment plant. The Almond Beach Club & Spa, on the other hand, features locally made product lines and packages, as well as local art works in its recently opened state of the art spa.
Almond Resorts has already won a prestigious local environmental award for demonstrating a commitment to emphasising the importance of the environment in the future operation of its hotels as well as its efforts for implementing programmes that benefit the local community. These include supporting local schools, children’s homes, local fairs and events, and the sponsorship of major cultural events on Barbados.
These environmental achievements tie in with Almond’s recent acquisition of the Casuarina Beach Club on the south coast of Barbados, which is part of the Green Hotels Association and has previously won many eco awards, including every major world environmental award between 2004 and 2005. Casuarina Beach Club is currently undergoing extensive renovations and is due to reopen in spring 2007 as Almond Casuarina Beach Resort. The hotel will feature locally grown produce in its cuisine as part of its efforts to benefit the local community.
The environmental programmes in operation at Almond Resorts on Barbados have also been implemented at the recently opened Almond Morgan Bay resort on St Lucia, and the group hopes that Morgan Bay can replicate the Barbados properties’ success and the recognition received for its efforts.
To build on its dedicated environmental efforts, Almond Resorts has appointed a group director of environmental programmes, Ms Loreto Duffy-Mayers whose role involves implementing environmentally sensitive programmes across the hotels, maintaining high levels of environmental responsibility amongst staff and customer and working with the local community.
Almond’s premium all-inclusive hotels offer a choice of a la carte restaurants serving fine cuisine and bars offering premium brand named drinks. There are numerous free water sports such as water skiing, windsurfing, sailing, snorkelling, banana boat rides and reef fishing with free tuition; tennis facilities and fitness centres as well as state of the art spas with treatments available at a locally payable cost. Children's clubs and family entertainment are available at the family friendly hotels.
